Catholic Charities Host Free Immigration Legal Clinic

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, in partnership with Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster, will host a community immigration information session and FREE legal clinic at St. Peter's Church in Monticello, Sullivan County, on Saturday, the 27th. of July. There is no cost to attend, but appointments are required.

“The path to legal status can be a long, difficult and complicated journey,” said Shannon Kelly, executive director of Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster. “Through these outreach events, we strive to clear up some of the confusion, dispel rumors, and provide accurate information and resources for immigrant families who are trying to navigate through the process.”
At the clinic, volunteers will meet with attendees to gather general information and understand the needs of an individual or family. Catholic Charities' team of attorneys will evaluate the information, provide individual legal consultations and determine next steps. The day will also include a “Know Your Rights” training program to help immigrants understand what they can and should do if contacted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), security planning strategies, information on benefits and services, and guidance on how to report and protect against fraud. Other topics that will be discussed with participants will include how to obtain a driver's license, information on workers' rights, and DACA and Green Card renewals.
“We are grateful to Father Bob Porpora and St. Peter's Church and our immigration legal services colleagues for working with us to bring these important legal clinics free of charge to the newest members of our Sullivan County community,” said the Mrs. Kelly.
Community partners will appear at the clinic to inform attendees about other available resources, including food and housing assistance, medical care, and behavioral health services.
